About
Blood flows in two loops: the pulmonary loop through the lungs and the systemic loop through the body.
- 📍 Where it is
- Heart, lungs and the whole body.
- 🧱 Structure
- Right heart -> pulmonary arteries -> lungs -> pulmonary veins -> left heart -> aorta -> body -> venae cavae -> right heart.
- ⚙️ What it does
- Picks up oxygen in the lungs and delivers it to body tissues while removing carbon dioxide.
💡 Key facts
- Blood passes through the heart twice in one complete circuit.
- William Harvey described circulation in 1628.
- One full circuit takes about a minute at rest.
✗ Blood goes from the heart to the body and back to the lungs
✓ Body blood returns to the right heart first, then goes to the lungs.
