About
The cell is the basic unit of life; a human cell has a nucleus and many organelles inside a membrane.
- 📍 Where it is
- Every tissue is made of cells; adults have tens of trillions.
- 🧱 Structure
- Cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus with nucleolus, mitochondria, rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, ribosomes, lysosomes and centrioles.
- ⚙️ What it does
- Each organelle has a job: energy (mitochondria), proteins (ribosomes, ER), packaging (Golgi), control (nucleus).
💡 Key facts
- Mitochondria have their own DNA.
- Red blood cells have no nucleus.
- The largest human cell is the egg.
✗ Animal cells have cell walls
✓ Only the cell membrane; cell walls are found in plants, fungi and bacteria.
📒 Words to know
- organelle
- tiny organ inside a cell
