🌗Seasons and Earth's tilt

🎯 Learning outcomes

  • Describe the weather as sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy, hot or cold
  • Name the seasons in India and how life changes in each
  • Choose suitable clothes and food for each season

Before you start: Observing the sky.

📖 Explanation

Weather is how the air outside is today: sunny, cloudy, rainy, windy, hot or cold. It can change from day to day.

In most of India we have summer, the rainy season (monsoon) and winter. In summer it is hot, so we wear light cotton clothes and drink lots of water. In the rainy season we use umbrellas and raincoats. In winter it is cold, so we wear woollen clothes.

Festivals and farm work follow the seasons: many crops are sown when the monsoon rains arrive.

🇮🇳 Example from India

In Kerala the monsoon usually arrives around the beginning of June, while in Delhi December and January are cold and foggy.

⚠️ Common mistake

✗ Weather is the same everywhere in India at the same time
✓ When it is snowing in Ladakh it can be warm in Chennai.
