Division

Division shares a total equally into groups. Whatever cannot be shared equally is the remainder, which is always less than the number of groups.

📐 Formula

n = k × q + r, with 0 ≤ r < k

✏️ Worked example

23 ÷ 5: 5 groups of 4 use 20, leaving 3. So 23 = 5 × 4 + 3, quotient 4, remainder 3.
