Craft, clay and paper work

Generic topic

This topic comes from GayaGnan's India-wide K–12 catalog. It is not copied from, or an official chapter of, any board's textbook: check your board's syllabus for the exact chapter and depth.

🎯 Learning outcomes

  • Make simple objects using paper folding, tearing, pasting and clay
  • Use tools such as scissors and glue safely
  • Reuse waste materials creatively

Before you start: Holding and handling materials.

📖 Explanation

Craft means making things with our hands. Paper can be folded (boats, caps), torn and pasted (collages), and cut into shapes.

Clay can be rolled, pressed and pinched into balls, snakes, pots and animals.

Safe crafting: use child-safe scissors, carry them pointing down, use glue carefully and wash hands after. We can reuse waste like bottle caps, cartons and old cards to make toys and decorations.

🇮🇳 Example from India

Children make paper boats to float in rainwater puddles during the monsoon.

⚠️ Common mistake

✗ Craft needs expensive materials
✓ Newspaper, old cards, leaves, seeds and clay make wonderful crafts.
