🎯 Learning outcomes
- Draw simple shapes, lines and everyday objects
- Name primary colours and mix them to make secondary colours
- Use colours freely to express feelings and ideas
Before you start: Holding a crayon or pencil.
📖 Explanation
Drawing starts with lines: straight, curved, zigzag and dotted. Lines join to make shapes: circles, squares, triangles. Everyday things can be drawn from shapes: a house from a square and a triangle, a cat from circles.
The primary colours are red, yellow and blue. Mixing two gives secondary colours: red + yellow = orange, yellow + blue = green, blue + red = purple.
Colours show feelings: bright colours for happy pictures, dark colours for night or sad moods. There is no single right way; art is a way to share ideas.
Children paint a mango tree using green for leaves, brown for the trunk and yellow-orange for ripe mangoes.
✗ A good drawing must look exactly like a photograph
✓ Art can be imaginative; simple shapes and bold colours can make beautiful pictures.
