Before you start: Counting and sharing objects.
📖 Explanation
A fraction names part of a whole that has been cut into equal parts. If a roti is cut into 2 equal parts, each part is one half, written ½.
If it is cut into 4 equal parts, each part is one quarter, written ¼. Two quarters make one half.
The parts must be the same size. If one piece is bigger, the pieces are not halves.
When a family shares one big paratha among four children, they cut it into 4 equal quarters so each child gets ¼.
✗ Any cut into two pieces makes halves
✓ The two pieces must be equal; a big piece and a small piece are not halves.
🧪 Try this activity
