Music, rhythm and movement

Generic topic

This topic comes from GayaGnan's India-wide K–12 catalog. It is not copied from, or an official chapter of, any board's textbook: check your board's syllabus for the exact chapter and depth.

🎯 Learning outcomes

  • Sing simple songs and rhymes in tune and in groups
  • Keep a beat with clapping, tapping and simple instruments
  • Move and dance to music with expression

Before you start: Listening to songs.

📖 Explanation

Music has sounds arranged with rhythm (beat) and melody (tune). We can keep the beat by clapping, tapping feet or playing a drum, tambourine or bells.

Sounds can be loud or soft, fast or slow, high or low.

Movement and dance help us feel the music: swaying, jumping, turning. Folk dances of India use simple steps and claps in groups.

🇮🇳 Example from India

During Navratri, families in Gujarat dance garba in circles, clapping to the beat of the dhol.

⚠️ Common mistake
