Voltage doubler
Aim: Produce about twice the input peak voltage with two diodes and two capacitors.

🔬 Virtual lab
Starting the lab…
📘 Theory
A clamper followed by a peak detector: the first stage lifts the waveform to swing from 0 to 2Vp, the second diode and capacitor hold that peak. Cascading stages (Cockcroft–Walton) gives higher multiples.
V_out ≈ 2·(V_peak − V_D)
🧰 Apparatus (virtual)
- Sine 10 V peak
- two 100 µF capacitors
- two diodes
- 100 kΩ load
📝 Procedure
🎤 Viva questions
Where are multipliers used
CRT and X-ray tubes, ionisers, photocopiers.
Why do they have poor regulation
The capacitors supply all the load current between peaks.
🛡️ Safety
Virtual lab at safe low voltages. On a real bench: switch off before rewiring, check capacitor polarity, and never touch mains wiring without supervision.
