Landscape builder where moving objects back makes them smaller and lighter

🎯 Learning outcomes
- Draw from observation using lines, shapes and textures
- Use warm and cool colours, tints and shades
- Show near and far in simple landscapes (overlapping and size)
Before you start: Basic drawing and colour mixing.
📖 Explanation
Observation drawing means looking carefully at objects: their outline, proportions and details. Texture shows how things feel: rough bark, smooth glass, furry cats, using dots, lines and patterns.
Warm colours (red, orange, yellow) feel bright and energetic; cool colours (blue, green, purple) feel calm. Adding white makes a tint (lighter); adding black makes a shade (darker).
To show depth: things far away look smaller and higher on the page, nearer things overlap farther ones and have more detail.
A student draws Dal Lake with a big shikara in front and small mountains far behind, using cool blues and greens.
✗ Shading means pressing hard with a pencil everywhere
✓ Shading builds gradually from light to dark following where light falls.
🧪 Try this activity
Observe a fruit or a steel tumbler under a lamp and draw it with light and dark shading.
