Quantitative Aptitude

Time, speed and distance

Distance = speed × time, unit conversion, trains and relative speed.

✍️ Practise

Distance = Speed × Time.

km/h to m/s: multiply by 5/18. m/s to km/h: multiply by 18/5.

A train of length L passing a pole covers distance L. Passing a platform of length P, it covers L + P.

Relative speed: add speeds for opposite directions, subtract for the same direction.

📌 Remember for the exam

  • ×5/18 converts km/h to m/s
  • Average speed for equal distances = 2xy/(x + y)
