Signed multiplication
When multiplying, the same signs give a positive product and different signs give a negative product. On the number line, b jumps of size a land on a × b.
− × + = −Signed multiplication
📐 Formula
(+)(+) = +, (−)(−) = +, (+)(−) = (−)(+) = −
✏️ Worked example
(−3) × 4 = −12: four jumps of −3 from 0.
🌍 Where it is used
Repeated losses (losing ₹3 a day for 4 days is −₹12).
