🎯 Learning outcomes

  • Refine running, jumping (long and high) and throwing techniques
  • Combine skills in sequences and game situations
  • Use correct technique to improve performance safely

Before you start: Basic locomotor and object skills.

📖 Explanation

Sprinting uses quick arm swings and running on the balls of the feet. The standing broad jump uses swinging arms and bending knees before taking off with both feet and landing softly.

Throwing improves by stepping with the opposite foot and following through with the arm. Catching uses 'soft hands' that pull the ball in. Dribbling a ball with hands or feet needs control and looking up.

Combining skills (run, receive, pass) prepares children for sports like football, basketball and kabaddi.

🇮🇳 Example from India

In a school sports day relay, runners practise the baton pass while running, combining speed and catching skills.

⚠️ Common mistake

✗ Jumping higher just needs more strength
✓ Technique — knee bend, arm swing and timing — matters as much as strength.

🧪 Try this activity

Practise the standing broad jump three times, measure the distance and see if arm swing improves it.
