3 📖 Explain
Letters stand for sounds. When we blend sounds together, we read a word: c-a-t makes cat.
Some letters join to make one sound, like sh (ship), ch (chair) and th (three). Changing one letter makes a new word: cat → hat → hot → hop.
On a market board: "Fresh fish – ₹200 a kg." Blending f-i-sh helps you read fish.
✗ Every letter always makes only one sound.
✓ Some letters work together: s and h together say "sh", not "s" and "h".
