My body and senses

Environmental Studies · Class 3

GG3-T02-01 · GG3-S02-01

This topic comes from GayaGnan's Class 3 catalog. It is generic, not an official board syllabus: check your board's book for the exact chapter.

1 ✨ Spark

Close your eyes. Can you still tell that a mango is near you? Which part of your body told you?

Think about this for a moment before you start.

2 🧊 3D Explore

Turn the scene, tap the objects and answer. Easy, Medium and Challenge are the three checkpoints.

3 📖 Explain

We have five sense organs: eyes to see, ears to hear, nose to smell, tongue to taste and skin to feel. They send messages to the brain, and the brain tells us what is around us.

We must care for our senses: read in good light, never put things into ears or nose, wash hands and face, and wear a cap in strong sun.

🇮🇳 Example from India

At a festival we see diyas with our eyes, hear crackers with our ears, smell sweets with our nose, taste laddoos with our tongue and feel the soft new clothes on our skin.

⚠️ Common mistake

✗ We taste food only with our mouth.
✓ The tongue tastes, but the nose helps too: food tastes dull when you have a cold.

📒 Glossary

sense organ
a body part that tells us about the world
senses
seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching
brain
the body part that understands the messages

5 🏡 Real-life task

Try this at home or at school, then check the suggested answer.

Scenario Your little brother wants to poke a pencil into his ear to scratch it. What will you tell him and why?

Show a suggested answer

Tell him to stop and ask an adult: a pencil can hurt the eardrum inside the ear and harm his hearing.

🧪 Try this activity

Play a blindfold game with safe things: guess an orange by smell, a bell by sound and a cotton ball by touch. Note which sense helped each time.

6 💭 Reflect

Think, then answer in your own words. Your notes stay on this device.

Observation In the 3D scene, tap the parts that help you know if milk has gone bad. Which senses do you use?

Show a suggested answer

The nose (it smells sour) and the eyes (it looks lumpy); we should not taste it to check.

Explain / create Make a "five senses" chart for your favourite place and teach it to a friend.

Show a suggested answer

For example, a park: see green trees (eyes), hear birds (ears), smell flowers (nose), taste a guava (tongue), feel soft grass (skin).
